This depends. If there is a ROM routine that does exactly what is needed for
conio, it is used. If the ROM implementation differs, is slow or whatever, it
is not used.

One example where the ROM routines are rarely used is cputc(): Usually the ROM
implementations have some sort of escape code interpretation to switch colors
or similar. Conio cputc() should only honor \n and \r, so the ROM routines
cannot be used in many cases.
